Dr. Reena Gupta
Dr. Reena Gupta is the Director of the Division of Voice and Laryngology at OHNI. Dr. Gupta has devoted her practice to the care of patients with voice problems. She is board certified in otolaryngology and laryngology and fellowship trained in laryngology, specializing in the care of the professional voice.
Dr. Gupta's desire to care for patients with voice problems stems from her passion for the vocal arts. She began singing in elementary school and showed great talent and promise. In high school she continued building her foundation through private vocal training. Throughout college she sang in the Pennsylvania State University Choir while simultaneously developing her love for the art of medicine. She was then accepted into Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia where she began to combine her singing background with her interests in medicine doing research with world-renowned voice specialist Dr. Robert Thayer Sataloff.
Dr. Gupta's undeniable talent and dedication gained her the support of Dr. Sataloff and he began to mentor her activities. She went onto complete a 5 year residency program at New York University School of Medicine in Head and Neck surgery while concurrently conducting research in the field of laryngology.
Upon graduation, from NYU Dr. Gupta was selected to complete the prestigious fellowship in Laryngology and Care of the Professional Voice under the guidance of Dr. Robert Sataloff at Drexel University of Medicine. This fellowship has given her extensive experience in the management of a wide variety of complex voice disorders.
Dr. Gupta has since become a leader in the field. She has written multiple publications, which have appeared in Current Opinion in Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery; Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery; Laryngoscope; and Ear, Nose, and Throat Journal. She has also authored chapters in multiple voice textbooks, including Professional Voice: the Science and Art of Clinical Care; Textbook of Laryngology; and Operative Techniques in Laryngology. She has given presentations at national meetings for the Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the Combined Otolaryngology Section Meeting. Dr. Gupta has developed a program for voice students at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, and is extending this program to Pepperdine University voice students. This program will aid both the growing and established performer learn more about the scientific basis of their voice, to help them excel in their craft.
Dr. Gupta developed these programs and academic pursuits because of her passion for the voice and education. Her musical beginnings have given her an appreciation for music that few medical professionals have. This background makes Dr. Gupta uniquely poised to treat performing artists from the perspective of both a physician and a musician.
Dr. Gupta is a member of several professional organizations that demonstrate her dedication to the field of otolaryngology. Some of these include the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Rhinologic Society.
